Komorní hůrka

Komorní hůrka je údajně nejmladší sopka na našem území. Naposledy vykazovala sopečnou činnost, podle odvážnějších odhadů, před 350 000 lety. Komorní hůrka není nijak zvlášť nápadná, má jen 503 m n. m. A to co by se mohlo zdát jako kráter, je jen bývalý lom.

The volcanic activity of the past is now evidenced only by the bubbling fumaroles – carbon dioxide gas finding its way to the surface – and igneous rocks. These phenomena may have given rise to the number of legends related to this mysterious place. The most popular of them are the legends about the enchanted souls and the dwarf king.

The scientists in the 19th century started to argue about the origin of this place. The survey, with the active participation of J. W. Goethe, confirmed the volcanic origin theory. The scientists found the conclusive proof after a tunnel had been dug into the hill. There is a plaque commemorating J. W. Goethe at its entrance now.

Komorní hůrka has been a national natural monument since 1933.
