Cheb (Eger)
The Western Bohemia centre of Cheb is mentioned for the first time in the late 11th century. Its location on the border made it an important defence as well as representation town. The Eger Palatinate, founded most probably in the 12th century, was used as a residence of the family of the Emperor. The importance of the town in the past is evidenced by the castle from the Middle Ages as well as a number of other architectural monuments. The town centre has been a historical reserve since 1981.
